Nov. 9th, 2015 06:30 amWell I took my 91 year old friend to play bridge in Fort Walton Beach (about 50 miles from here) It is competitive bridge which she used to play a while ago as did I. I have been slowly getting back to it while helping a couple of other friends learn more about the game. I have gone with them for some lessons that were offered and I assisted in the class. (I was actually there to refresh, but ended up helping the teacher)
Anyway, my friend has been asking me to take her to play and I keep putting it off hoping she will forget, but she didn't.
She wanted to go more as an outing and to get out of her house, where I go to really play some serious bridge. It was not a fun experience for me, and very frustrating. She needs to stick to the party bridge they play and the Senior Center. Gently I tried to tell her that, but I don't think I was that clear. I don't want to hurt her feelings (she knows she played badly and made some really bad errors) but I wanted her to know that it was not fair of her to use me and duplicate bridge to get out and around. She needs to find another hobby. I don't mind helping her, but not when bridge is involved.
I am taking another friend to play on Tuesday. Different ballgame there, she is just learning and is a competitive person. Will be interesting to see if she likes it. ( She is a horse person, and has been a National Champion in reining)
I hope I can really help her, I am not a good teacher because I am so impatient, but I would love for her to get lots better. I think she can be good at the game.
